Job Description

Huston Commons, located near Morrill's Corner in Portland, is the newest of Preble Street's Housing First programs, with individual apartments and 24-hour onsite, supportive services for 30 adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. With a low-barrier, Housing First approach and based on the principles that everyone deserves housing and the support necessary to maintain it, Huston Commons provides permanent housing alongside onsite services to support tenants in achieving and maintaining housing stability. Huston Commons currently has a full-time 1 st shift caseworker position available with a Friday-Monday schedule. This position will work as a member of the Residential Services team and will work primarily at Huston Commons. This direct service position provides casework services, outreaches and engages with tenants, provides program coverage and maintains safety in program spaces, and provides crisis intervention and support, to assist tenants in maintaining housing stability.
Schedule:
Friday- Monday, 8:00am-6:30pm Qualifications for the Caseworker position includes a bachelor's degree and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in residential support, direct care, or other, relevant direct services. Additional qualifications include understanding of and alignment with Preble Street's mission, positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, and a commitment to providing low-barrier services. Also required are strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills; familiarity with community resources; ability to work effectively with and maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations; and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and poverty is preferred. Compensation and benefits The hourly rate of pay for these full-time (40 hours/week) positions is $23.12 per hour. Direct service positions in 24/7 programs are also eligible for shift differentials of $1 per hour for all hours worked between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm.
