Job Description

The City of Burnsville seeks an Assistant Building Official to help lead the building safety team and support community development through consistent enforcement of building codes, ordinances, and regulations. This role works with residents, businesses, and contractors to promote safe and vibrant development. Responsibilities include supervising inspection staff, supporting code enforcement (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and energy), recommending policy updates, developing procedures, and leading outreach and education related to permits and compliance. Minimum qualifications include an associate degree or BIT certificate with five years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED with seven years of experience. Required certifications include State Building Official certification and ICC Plans Examiner or Building Official certification (or ability to obtain within one year), plus a valid driver's license. Local government and plumbing experience preferred. Salary starts at $114,046.06 depending on qualifications.
