Area Coordinator Location:
Mars Hill University (Live-in Position) The Area Coordinator (AC) is a live-in staff member responsible for student development, safety, and community engagement in upperclassmen residential communities. This position requires active participation in the academic and co-curricular life at MHU and supports the university's mission, Student Life, and Housing and Residence Life.Time & Travel Requirements:
Over 40-hour workweeks, including evenings and weekends Rotating on-call dutyMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of residence life experience Strong teamwork, communication, mentoring, crisis management, and problem-solving skills Commitment to student development, diversity, and higher education in residential settings Flexible schedule availability (evenings, weekends, holidays)Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in student affairs or related field 2+ years of full-time experience in Residence Life/Student Affairs Experience in staff supervision, crisis management, and student engagement Familiarity with housing/conduct software and data managementEssential Duties:
1. Administration Manage budgets, housing assignments, maintenance, and safety procedures Oversee resident check-in/out, fire drills, and security walk-throughs Serve as emergency building administrator and on-call duty rotation. 2. Staff Management & Training Recruit, train, and supervise Resident Assistants (RAs) Conduct weekly staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins. Develop leadership and professional growth opportunities for student staff. 3. Community Development Foster engagement in student organizations, leadership, and campus traditions Maintain visibility and relationships with residents and student leaders. 4. Student Care & Conduct Provide support for students in academic, personal, or mental health concerns. Serve as a conduct officer, handling policy violations and conflict resolution. 5. Residential Curriculum & Learning Outcomes Develop and assess residential programs aligned with student needs. Collaborate with faculty to support Living Learning Communitie.s 6. Upperclassmen Engagement Design and implement programs to retain students in housing and prepare for post-graduation Lead the Upperclassmen Engagement Series and Sophomore Celebration Week 7. Additional Responsibilities Support university policies, Title IX, and Clery Act compliance Serve on committees and pursue professional development opportunities.
