Texas Public Safety Training Academy - Bastrop, TX About Us Texas Public Safety Training Academy (TPSTA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to preparing the next generation of EMTs, firefighters, and security professionals. We provide low- to no-cost education to rural and underserved communities, helping students launch meaningful careers in public safety and healthcare. We are seeking a part-time Training Assistant to support our instructors, students, and training operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in an educational and hands-on public safety environment, and who wants to help our students succeed. Job Summary The Training Assistant plays a key role in ensuring smooth course delivery and student support. Responsibilities include assisting with classroom and skills sessions, maintaining training records, preparing instructional materials, and supporting students through onboarding and coursework. The Training Assistant will work directly with instructors and administrative staff to keep training operations organized, efficient, and student-focused. Key Duties & Responsibilities (Based on TPSTA's training assistant workflow) Course & Classroom Support Assist instructors during EMT, Fire, and Security courses, including setup of classrooms, skills labs, and equipment. Help monitor student participation and provide support during hands-on training sessions. Ensure that all required supplies, manikins, and equipment are prepared and ready for training. Student Support Guide new students through orientation, LMS (Moodle) access, and course expectations. Assist with scheduling, reminders, and tracking student progress. Provide first-level support for questions about coursework, deadlines, and resources. Administrative & Recordkeeping Maintain organized training records, evaluations, and sign-in sheets. Assist in collecting and entering data into the LMS and other academy systems. Support compliance efforts by ensuring training documentation is complete and accurate. Operational Support Assist in coordinating clinical/skills days and ensuring students meet progression requirements. Support instructors in preparing instructional materials and presentations. Help enforce academy policies, including safety protocols and professional conduct standards. Qualifications Prior experience in training, education, EMS, fire, security, or related public safety fields preferred (not required). Strong organizational and communication skills. Comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office/Google Suite and Learning Management Systems (Moodle experience a plus). Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced training environment. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support course schedules.
