Job Description

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.
Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $18.40 and may be commensurate with experience.
Position Description:
The Residential Assistant will provide monitoring and oversight of residential/transitional housing facilities and residents. This position is located at our treatment program for adult men and women in High View, West Virginia.
Required:
HS Degree/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment
Required License/Certification :
CPR/First Aid; AED; Food Handler's License; Crisis Intervention (Training);
Driver's License Schedule:
Friday and Saturday, 12:00 am - 8:00 am ( Part-Time,16 hours per week)
Expected Contributions:
Program Operations Perform room checks and hourly house walk-throughs Provide supervision of the facility and residents during assigned shift; maintain safety and security of the facility Assist residents with daily living activities Monitor resident compliance with rules and regulations Provide documentation and maintain communication logs Respond to crises or medical emergencies and report to management and on-call staff Monitor resident self-medication during shift Ensure house chores are completed Assist residents in preparing meals, as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of substance abuse treatment and mental health issues Conflict resolution skills Flexibility with the ability to multitask despite competing priorities Ability to remain calm in crises Organized with an attention to detail Ability to work independently Ability to communicate with diverse audiences Demonstrates professionalism and maintains confidentiality while working with sensitive issues Problem-solving skills Relationship-building skills Ability to set professional boundaries Reports to:
Program Manager Position Designation:
This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
Physical Demands :
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to travel off-site using his or her own transportation methods. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. This position may be active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
