Job Description

Peer Support Coordinator Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities (CID We are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Peer Support Coordinator, that under the direction of the Program Manager provides services to people with disabilities in a group and individual setting. The Peer Support Coordinator provides peer counseling, information and referral, and advocacy. This role assists members of the community to identify resources, strategies, and skills needed to successfully live independently. The Peer Support Coordinator is also responsible for establishing relationships with community organizations that provide services for people with disabilities. Knowledge of the independent living movement, and disability justice is essential. The Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities (CID) is a consumer-driven, community-based nonprofit organization serving San Mateo County. Founded in 1979, CID is committed to promoting independence, self-determination, and disability justice. As part of the 28 Centers for Independent Living in California, we are dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through comprehensive services and advocacy. Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate Peer Support Group workshops.
Provide instruction in, (not limited to), personal care, financial management, social skills, household management, education and training necessary for living independently in the community. Service coordination including needs assessments, identification of relevant community resources, and advocacy. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of information, support, counseling, and advocacy for resources in the community ensuring adequate information and referral services Collaborate with government agencies and community-based organizations to facilitate service coordination. Represent CID at community meetings relevant to people with disabilities Maintain accurate records for reporting purposes Collaborate with other CID staff in assisting community members to address issues and achieve goals. Other duties as assigned Qualifications
  • Lived experience as a person with a disability (preferred)
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and/or older adults in social services or advocacy settings
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across diverse communities
  • Bilingual/bicultural (preferred)
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software
  • Strong strategy, critical thinking, and advocacy skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: o Independent living movement o Independent Living Center (ILC) core services o Social service programs in San Mateo County Compensation and Benefits
  • $23,000-$25,000 per year
