POSITION
Social Services and Senior Center Assistant
PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS
(NATURE OF WORK): The Social Services and Senior Center Assistant supports the Social Services Director by performing assigned administrative, program, communication, and Senior Center support duties. This position assists with the implementation of approved Senior Center programs, communications, schedules, and activities under the direction of the Social Services Director. The Assistant may prepare materials, gather information, coordinate logistics, and monitor approved programs, but does not independently approve, schedule, publish, or commit Town resources without prior authorization. The position performs all duties in accordance with Town policies, confidentiality requirements, and the NASW Code of Ethics.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervisors:
Social Services Director. Works under the direct supervision of the Social Services Director. The employee may complete assigned routine tasks independently, but receives direction, review, and approval from the Social Services Director for Senior Center programming, public communications, scheduling, purchases, and any matter involving confidential client or participant information.

HOURS OF WORK
Part-time, non-exempt position. Maximum 16 hours per week. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9:30am - 1:30pm.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Perform clerical and administrative duties as assigned by supervisor, including, but are not limited to: filing, copying, answering and returning phone messages, preparing documents, maintaining spreadsheets, maintaining accurate records of programs and attendance, and communication records. Assist in the preparation of the quarterly newsletters, flyers for programs, and distributing information via mass email. Assist with the planning, preparation, setup, facilitation, monitoring, and breakdown of approved Senior Center Programs. Delegate responsibilities to volunteers at the Senior Center. Collect fees, greet participants, and interact and help participants through the duration of programs. Monitor supplies for programs. Coordinate ordering supplies with supervisor. Recommend program ideas, gather information, contact potential presenters, and assist with program logistics. Seek approval for programs from supervisor. Maintain ServSafe certification and oversee practices in the Senior Center kitchen. Maintain a safe and clean environment; ensure all kitchen equipment is safe and sanitary and that all furniture is in good, working condition. Complete special projects, reports, and trainings as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, and Constant Contact, or equivalents. Experience with database systems. Experience creating and presenting programs for senior citizens. Good communication and organization skills as well as a willingness to follow instructions. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Awareness of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, cultural perspectives and interests. Ability to use active listening skills, time management and coordination skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent (Bachelor's Degree preferred). In some circumstances, work experience may be substituted for education. Employment experience working in a setting with mandated client/patient confidentiality. Valid driver's license and available vehicle. Must be certified or willing to be certified in First Aid/CPR. Must be ServSafe certified or obtain certification within 90 days of hire. Must submit to and pass a background check.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment, Senior Center, and commercial kitchen. Repetitive motion (use of computer keyboard, lifting and sorting items at the Senior Center). Ability to lift and carry boxes (no more than 50 lbs), move tables and chairs, shop for large quantities of food for Senior Center programs such as Make It & Take It for the Food Bank and other similar tasks that involve bending or reaching above one's head. Requires standing for prolonged periods while working certain Senior Center programs at the Senior Center, or other program/activity or sitting for prolonged periods for case management and computer or telephone work.
Pay:
