Effective Date of Employment:
Immediately Upon Appointment
Salary:
$40/hour (if for any reason the candidate selected does not complete the appointment, compensation will be prorated based upon time served)
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
Director of Out-of-School Time Programming In Collaboration with the Offices of Title I and Title III
Statement of Duties:
Provide counseling and support to designated special needs students and their families. Provide individual and group counseling to designated special needs students as stated on their educational plans. Conduct home visits as requested. Participate in crisis intervention. Consult on a regular basis with classroom teachers regarding special needs students. Establish lines of communication and a good working relationship with area human service agencies. Coordinate with the Supervisor of Attendance in regard to CHINS petitions, 51As, etc. Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Director of Special Education, the Building Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the School Committee.
Qualifications:
Licensed as a School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Required. Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • Preferred.
Ability to provide individual and small group counseling to the school-age population. Ability to work closely and harmoniously with parents, teachers, and administrators. Ability to conduct home visits and to write developmental histories. Knowledge of special education programs and laws. Knowledge of area mental health services. Strong organizational skills. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
