Summary:
Under the direction of the Dean, the Academic Support Coordinator assists undergraduate and graduate nursing students to achieve academic success. The Academic Support Coordinator collaborates with the dean, directors, program coordinators, and advisors, to develop and implement strategies to support student retention and success.
Responsibilities:
  • Effectively completes a comprehensive assessment of student(s) learning needs, learning style and gaps in comprehension / knowledge.
  • Develops and implements individualized or cohort-based academic support sessions.
  • Develops and implements individualized or cohort-based test-taking strategy sessions.
  • Creates individualized learning support documents
  • Evaluates student / session outcomes.
  • Maintains records of all student contacts, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Provides feedback to staff about identified student(s) needs and gaps in comprehension/knowledge
  • Works with staff to optimize curriculum, course, and program content based on student(s) needs and outcomes.
Requirements:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
Experience:
Experience:
Two years professional experience in a field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
  • Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college).
  • A Ph.
D. degree or Ed.

D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Three years of current professional nursing clinical experience.
  • Three years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
  • Experience teaching pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment.
  • Experience working with at risk students.
  • At least one year of distance education experience in a nursing program.
  • Maintains an active, unencumbered multistate or New Jersey RN license.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, showing an ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • National certification as a nurse practitioner.
