Founded in 2001, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) supports, organizes and empowers the indigenous migrant communities of California's Central Coast through improved access to health and community resources, community organizing, language interpretation, education, direct assistance, cultural promotion, and our indigenous-led Radio Indígena community radio station. MICOP offers a fast-paced, multilingual and multicultural work environment dedicated to carrying out our mission. About theRole:
The Director of Social Services plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing and enhancing social service programs that support individuals and families within the community. This position is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations to deliver effective and compassionate services. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and professional development to maximize program impact and operational efficiency across our service delivery area in the Central Coast. They serve as a key liaison between government agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to advocate for resources and partnerships that advance social welfare objectives. MICOP's social services include, but are not limited to: Medi-Cal enrollment, interpretation services, legal services, parent classes and systems navigation. Ultimately, the Director ensures that social service initiatives are responsive to community needs, equitable, and promote the well-being and empowerment of the migrant community. Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of culturally and linguistically responsive social service programs aligned with community needs and organizational goals. Manage and supervise social service staff, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and funding requirements, preparing reports and documentation as needed. Collaborate with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to coordinate services and secure funding opportunities. Oversee budget planning and resource allocation to optimize program effectiveness and sustainability. Advocate for social service policies and initiatives that address systemic challenges and promote social justice, including language access, safety net access and community safety. Monitor program outcomes and use data-driven approaches to inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making. Represent the organization at public meetings, conferences to raise awareness and support for social services. Participate in weekly leadership meetings, both with senior managers and directors, contributing to strategic planning and cross-program collaboration. Required Skills Leadership and Team Management skills to effectively lead, mentor and support diverse teams, oversee operations, and ensure program success Strong Communication to collaborate with staff, community partners, and policymakers, and to support advocacy efforts Analytical ability to assess program data, monitor outcomes, and make informed decisions that improve service delivery Budgeting and Resource Management to operate programs within financial constraints while maximizing impact Problem-Solving to navigate complex social issues, respond to emerging community needs and address operational challenges with thoughtful, solutions-oriented approaches Experience Working with diverse populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion. Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising strategies. Proficiency in data analysis and program evaluation tools. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus. Experience Building Community Partnerships with local organizations, public agencies, and stakeholders to strengthen service coordination and expand program reach Knowledge of Compliance and Regulatory Requirements affecting nonprofit social service programs, including state and federal reporting, contracts, and funder requirementsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field. At least 5 years of progressive experience in social services, including 3 years in a supervisory or management role. Comprehensive knowledge of social service programs, policies, and regulatory requirements in the United States. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, staff, and complex projects effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience in stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
