jglicksman@woodbridgect.gov or may be mailed to the Human Services Department at 11 Meetinghouse Lane, Woodbridge, CT 06525 -Applications deadline: June 12, 2026 Job Description Under the direction of the Director of Human Services, The Woodbridge Center Director oversees the administration, development, and operation of multi-service programs for residents aged 55 and older. The position is responsible for fostering an environment that promotes the intellectual, social, and physical well-being of the community's older population. This position is in-person and full-time hours with benefits.
Essential Job Functions Operational Leadership:
Directs daily operations of The Woodbridge Center, ensuring high standards of service delivery and facility management.
Program Development:
Designs, implements, and evaluates comprehensive programming, including nutritional services (meals), educational workshops, recreational activities, and special events.
Strategic Communications:
Orchestrates community outreach through the management of newsletters, digital media, press releases, flyers, and promotional brochures to maximize local engagement.
Transportation Oversight:
Supervises the Transportation Coordinator and provides high-level oversight of the department's fleet, ensuring compliance with inspections, maintenance schedules, insurance requirements, and safety reporting.
Fiscal & Administrative Accountability:
Maintains detailed departmental statistics; prepares formal reports for the Human Services Commission and contributes to the annual budget cycle and long-term planning.
Governance Support:
Submits a written report and attends a monthly meeting of the Human Services Commission. Attends Board of Selectmen, budget, and other meetings as needed.
Community & Volunteer Engagement:
Cultivates and sustains strategic partnerships with business sponsors and local organizations. Seeks grants and secures external funding and partnerships to subsidize the cost of resident programming. Recruits, trains, and manages a volunteer network based on programming needs.
Advocacy & Innovation:
Monitors trends for aging adults and local demographics to identify and address emerging needs through innovative programming and advocacy.
Direct Services/ Social Services:
Works collaboratively with the Director of Human Services and the department social worker to facilitate client support when needed.
Emergency Response:
Remains on call to staff and must support the Town's Emergency Shelter operations as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Subject Matter Expertise:
Comprehensive understanding of the aging process, including the psychological, social, and physiological needs of older adults.
Management Proficiency:
Demonstrates ability to oversee both professional staff and volunteers including training, scheduling, and review.
Communication Excellence:
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with seniors, families, professionals, community members, and municipal leaders.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Familiarity with federal, state, and regional programs and grants available to the senior population.
Technical Literacy:
Proficiency in Center software (SchedulesPlus), Microsoft Office Suite, and digital and social media communication platforms.
Bachelor's degree in social work, Gerontology, Human Services, Psychology, or a closely related field.
Experience:
A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in human services, with a proven track record in program administration and strategic planning.
Licensure:
Valid Connecticut Driver's License. Grant writing experience preferred. Physical Demands & Work Environment The role operates in a dynamic office environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities. Must be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds occasionally. Requires the ability to maintain composure and professional focus under the pressure of deadlines or emergency situations. Pay:
$62,000.00 - $66,000.00 per year
