Job Title:
Part Time Counselor Reports to: Child Care Director and Site LeaderPOSITION SUMMARY
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in our summer program. Provides quality experience to children and parent focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervises a group of children in your care at all times. 2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. 3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. 4. Attends staff meetings and trainings. 5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 6. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. 7. Serve any and all meals/snacks. 8. Assist in restroom duties. 9. Interact with children.YMCA COMPETENCIES

1. High School Diploma 2. At least 18 years of age 3. Experience working with children 4. CPR and First Aid Certification 5. Satisfactory result on fingerprinting 6. Pass a Drug Screening 7. Annually complete 18 hours of bright from the start approved trainingPHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
(include but not limited to) Be familiar with and adhere to YMCA policies and procedures. Be involved in all activities with the children enrolled in the program. Play games and assist in activities that are stated in the lesson plans. Take an active part in leading the children in all activities presented by the Site Leader or Director. No idling, wandering off, huddling together or sitting while supervising children. Cell phones and other personal items are not allowed. Supervise the playground, outside play areas and bathrooms during free and guided play. At no time shall any staff member leave children unattended.Dress Code:
YMCA Staff Shirt Name Tag Closed Toe Shoes Shorts that are finger tip length or long pants (no holes) No visible piercing except females may have one earring in each ear. (no hoops, dangling earring or gauges; studs only) No visible Tattoos. Staff are to report daily to the Child Care Director or Site Leader upon entering the program to receive instructions for the day. If the Site Leader is absent then the Assistant Site Leader shall be in charge. Serving all meals is required, at serving time, fill out Kidcare and after each meal clean up.Follow bathroom procedures:
Male counselor must take boys to restroom and all girls must be taken by Female counselors. Know how many kids you are taking to the restroom. Fill out any restroom sheets. Check restroom first before allowing children to enter. Send only one child at a time. Make sure the child washes his/her hands for at least 30 seconds. Staff is expected to work scheduled times which may include holidays and weekends. Closing staff members are the clean their classrooms at closing time and initial the check off on the end of day clean-up report. Staff agree not to babysit any children that are enrolled in the YMCA PrimeTime Program during off hours per YMCA policy. Staff understand that if they accept this position, the first 90 days will be a trial period and you may be terminated within this time without reason or explanation.Job Type:
