Normal Work Hours/Days:
Varied schedule which may include evening and weekends Peer Services provides support to individuals with successful management of their mental health recovery and individuals transitioning to more independent living or hospital discharge using four primary service interventions: Engagement in a personal, positive, supportive relationship with a peer Involvement in an array of Peer Support Groups located both in the residential program, day treatment, and community Linkage to a broad range of community-based service and natural supports Teaching community adjustment and wellness self-management skills
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The Certified Peer Support Specialist provides intensive support through a personalized balance of social, recreational, skill teaching and linkage development services for individual match relationships As demonstrated by: Schedule of individual contacts of at least 30 minutes up to three hours with each match at least once per week Initiation of dialogue with matches about skills and supports during individual meetings once per week. Establishment of linkages that result in their active use of resources in the community. The Certified Peer Specialist should actively facilitate successful mutual group meetings.
As demonstrated by:
Facilitation of peer/mutual support/group meetings in day programs and residential settings Facilitation of peer/mutual support/group meetings in the community. Completion of meeting report forms and sign in sheets for each meeting. The Certified Peer Specialist will perform travel and reporting responsibilities for match relationships and group facilitation.
As demonstrated by:
Activity reports and travel forms One on one meetings with the team leader twice per month Completion of all documentation requirements for provided services, weekly Participation in mandatory bi-weekly Peer Bridger Team meetings and all scheduled training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Motor vehicle Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy. If using personal vehicle must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage. Must attain Certification upon hire and maintain certification. Must demonstrate lived experience with mental health diagnosis and be a role model to others pursuing recovery
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff. Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental health challenges. Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with mental health challenges of their own. Have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama State public mental health system, Have demonstrated knowledge of advocacy, self-help and empowerment programs for recipients of mental health services. Have the ability to complete basic documentation requirements for group facilitation and one on one meetings
