Job Description

JOB A Peer Support Specialist provides peer-to-peer support services to help consumers access and navigate behavioral health services. Services are recovery-oriented, resiliency-focused, culturally appropriate and promote engagement, socialization, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, and help to develop natural supports, as well as being trauma informed. Peer Support Specialist Services may include but are not limited to, promoting recovery, resiliency, and wellness; supporting identification of strengths; planning; finding and accessing community resources and services; and coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and/or education. Services may be provided individually or in a group.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Under direct supervision, the Peer Support Specialist may - Interpret and explain regulations and policies to clientsAssist with a limited caseloadCreate a high level of trust with behavioral health clientsAssist individuals and families in accessing and utilizing formal and informal community supportActively participate in the engagement process, providing reassurance that the circumstances and challenges that brought the individual and/or family into services will be handled confidentiallyListen non-judgmentally to discover needs, strengths, and to identify people important to the clientIdentify barriers that exist and help to remove themAssist in addressing client needs through empathetic and supportive communicationProvide assistance to clinicians, social workers, specialists and/or other professional staff with transportation of clients, collecting client documentation and coordinating communication with clientsProvide clerical support

WORK LOCATION
The County of Inyo has work sites located throughout the Owens Valley (Independence, Bishop, Lone Pine, Big Pine, and Olancha) and the Death Valley area (Death Valley, Tecopa, and Shoshone). All Inyo County positions are considered Countywide. Positions are assigned to a work site based upon the needs of the County. Positions may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another work site as deemed necessary by the Department Head and/or County Administration.
