Job Description

Shelter Specialist:

Responsible for supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness through trauma-informed care and daily shelter operations. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment, coordinate resources, document client progress, support program compliance, and build positive relationships with clients, staff, and volunteers.

Shift Schedule:

Sunday 6am-2:30pm, Monday & Tuesday 2pm-10:30pm, Wednesday & Thursday 10pm-6:30am Reports to: Shelter Manager

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Demonstrate an understanding of the Trauma Informed/Sanctuary models through daily interactions with staff, clients, volunteers and donors. Monitor shelter operations for safety and security. Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues while in the shelter and in the community. Provide clients with basic needs supplies available within the shelter. Maintain professional documentation about client progress and activities. Assist case manager(s) and social worker in providing resources for clients. Maintain confidentiality of clients and staff. Attend staff meetings and trainings. Adhere to and enforce all Care for Adult and Child Food Program (CACFP) Regulations. Receive donations and complete documentation while creating a positive experience for donors Janitorial duties related to the position. Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Perform other program duties as assigned.

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED (Preferred). Knowledge of or experience working with those who are experiencing homelessness (Preferred). Strong written, computer, and verbal communication skills. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
