Job Description
Certification as a Peer Support Specialist is required for this position. Come join the Vista Family! We are an organization that serves our community by helping others in a team environment. Peer specialists model recovery, teach skills and offer supports to help people experiencing mental health challenges lead meaningful lives in the community. Peer specialists promote recovery; enhance hope and social networking through role modeling and activation; and supplement existing treatment with education, empowerment, and aid in system navigation . Services provided include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the development of participants' goals
- Advocating for the needs of participants.
- Peer mentoring
- Assisting participant in engaging or re-engaging with participant's natural supports (e.g. family, friends, other loved ones, neighbors)
- Facilitating job readiness training
- Assisting participant to develop self-advocacy and problem-solving skills
- Role modeling behaviors, attitudes and skills that promote recovery and wellness that is needed for resiliency and coping
- Assisting participants with identifying and utilizing their strengths
- Role modeling the facilitation of collaborative relationships
- Assisting participants in accessing community and social services
- Facilitating support groups Peer Support Services are non-clinical and designed to help initiate and sustain the individual in his/her recovery.
