Peer Support Specialist (Grant Funded) Fayetteville Technical Community College (E) - 3.9 Fayetteville, NC Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Retirement plan Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking a Peer Support Specialist working through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services grant. This temporary, grant funded, full-time, position will effectively build and grow a diverse, positive, and inclusive Collegiate Recovery Program and Recovery Ready community at FTCC. (A Recovery-Ready institution is a place where individuals are empowered to ask for help, intervene with empathy when they notice someone struggling with alcohol or other drug use, and respect recovery by offering encouragement and celebrating success.) This temporary full-time position is funded through June 30, 2027. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. The Peer Support Specialist is a temporary, grant-funded role supported by NCDHHS. This position supports the Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) by fostering a recovery-oriented environment that promotes wellness, resilience, and academic success for students overcoming substance use and related challenges. The role provides peer support, education, outreach, advocacy, and programming while connecting students to campus and community resources. Duties Essential Duties— Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide peer support through mentoring, coaching, group facilitation, and education using strengths-based, recovery-oriented approaches. Build trusting, supportive relationships that respect diverse backgrounds and recovery pathways. Share lived experience to promote hope, resilience, and engagement in recovery. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate CRP programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives. Foster a safe, inclusive, recovery-supportive campus culture that encourages help-seeking and reduces stigma. Connect students to campus and community resources (counseling, healthcare, academic support, and recovery services). Lead awareness and educational efforts on recovery and substance use. Collaborate with campus departments and external partners (e.g., ARHE, SAFE Project). Track participation, outcomes, and program data to support assessment, reporting, and grant compliance. Assist with outreach materials and program promotion. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical peer support practices. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Experience:
At least one year of relevant professional experience.
Training:
Applicants must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and be working toward an associate or bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field of study.
License or Certificate:
Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification required or ability to obtain within an established timeframe. •
