Job Description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Housing Specialist will be responsible for assessing clients' eligibility and determining their housing and service needs for our Transgender Housing Clients in both Long Island City, NY.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Secures permanent housing for clients from diverse sources, including government agencies, private landlords, and brokers. Assists clients with property searches and negotiates terms on their behalf. Ensures clients understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants. Provides clients with information and referrals to additional support programs. Prepares and maintains daily logs, records, and reports. Assists clients in completing all necessary paperwork, including lease signings. Partners with Case Managers to prepare clients for landlord/broker interviews. Ensures clients maintain their appointments. Ensures apartments are client-ready (utilities active, furniture delivered). Maintains accurate records of client compliance through appointments and interviews. Meets or surpasses target goals for permanent housing placements. Essential Employees are required to report to work during emergencies. Duties are subject to change based on agency needs.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Housing Specialist in a DHS shelter . Familiarity with CARES, CAPS, CURRENT, and HOMES applications. Demonstrated success in moving clients into permanent housing using CityFHEPS vouchers, supportive housing, and SOTA. Willingness and flexibility to conduct field work as needed Strong knowledge and experience with DHS systems: HOME, CURRENT, and CAPS.
Knowledge of NYC housing vouchers:
CityFHEPS, FHEPS, SOTA, EHV, Section 8, HPD/HDC, and other rental subsidies. Highly organized and able to manage multiple housing cases. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Culturally sensitive and able to work with diverse populations, including TGNC clients. Preferred Qualifications /
