Volunteer Coordinator Reports to: Development Manager

REQUIRMENTS

Must have a strong understanding of basic animal care, handling, safety, and welfare practices, with the ability to learn and communicate THS animal care policies and procedures to volunteers. Must be comfortable being around and handling all types of animals. Proficient in Canva, MS Office, Constant Contact, Volgistics, and Donor Perfect CRM Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited supervision, work well under pressure, and have excellent problem-solving skills. Must be detail oriented with effective organizational skills including time management, multitasking, and handling multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. Must be comfortable with public speaking and doing media interviews periodically. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build effective working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization. Ability to assess volunteer needs, identify appropriate volunteer opportunities, and work with department leaders to develop meaningful and productive volunteer roles. Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately address volunteer concerns, conflicts, and performance issues. Must maintain a regular presence in the shelter during core volunteer hours to provide support, guidance, and oversight to volunteers, with the flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on volunteer activities, events, or program needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteers Coordinate and oversee THS' volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention. Develop and maintain a consistent volunteer onboarding and orientation process, including training, policies, procedures, and documentation. Serve as a primary point of contact for volunteers and provide ongoing communication, support, and problem-solving. Work closely with Animal Care, Foster, Behavior & Rehabilitation, Adoption, Humane Education, Development, Marketing, and other departments to ensure volunteers are effectively utilized across the organization. Organize Volunteer Appreciation Events including but not limited to Fall Fest and Volunteer Appreciation Week. Maintain files, records, applications, and any miscellaneous administrative duties related to the volunteer program. Schedule and Facilitate group volunteer activities. Ensure all volunteers have access to up to date information related to the animals, processes and procedures at THS. Recruit volunteers for 3rd party events, holidays, annual fundraisers, and extraordinary circumstances (examples: short staffed, large influx of animals, emergencies, etc.). Maintain the Canister Program. Coordinate with Canister collection Volunteers, Accounting Department, and Money Count Volunteers. Animal Care & Shelter Develop a working knowledge of THS animal care operations, including daily care, cleaning, enrichment, handling, adoption support, and basic shelter procedures. Regularly spend time in animal care areas to understand the work volunteers are being asked to perform and ensure volunteer roles are appropriate and adequately supported. May periodically assist with animal care activities or work alongside volunteers as needed to understand, support, or evaluate volunteer roles. Development Department General Duties As Needed Assist with data entry and maintaining records Assist/Attend annual events (Kitten Shower, Bark in the Park, Wags to Riches, Etc) Assist with development creatives such as the newsletter

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted regularly, 50+ pounds assisted Ability to be comfortable working with cats, dogs, small animals, and reptiles Ability to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, bending Due to nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, ill, or fractious animals, zoonotic or other diseases, unpleasant noises, odors, or sights, extreme temperatures, irate people
