RESPONSIBLE FOR

: The Shelter and Youth Support Staff position is a full-time, non-exempt position that supports YCAP shelter and youth activities. Our McMinnville Youth facility provides drop-in services to Youth only between the hours of 10 AM

• 7PM.

This position may provide coverage at our McMinnville Shelter when needed. YCAP's Shelters are designed to support vulnerable people in our community; therefore, our shelter facility will be open and operating during inclement weather and on holidays. Shelter staff members are required to work their regularly assigned schedule during inclement weather and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Agency Initiatives Create a positive team atmosphere providing quality service to clients, staff and volunteers through active listening, positive problem solving, and timely responses. Implement all program standards during operation and follow YCAP mission, vision, values, policies and procedures. Support agency activities and initiatives related to homelessness such as the annual Point-in-Time count (PIT). Complete specialized training courses that meet grant requirements. This includes Youth Development, De-Escalation, Trauma informed care, Coordinated Entry, Non-Violent Communication, Fair Housing, Domestic Violence Support, Mental Health First-Aid, and safe food handling training. Direct Client Support Provide a safe, nurturing, and well-supervised place for youth and families to participate in and access services. Orient all new clients and/or households to the youth and shelter programs and facilities. This will include explanation of all on-site program policies and procedures, collection of client signatures when needed, and re-orientation if corrective action is appropriate. Complete daily shelter and drop-in tasks. Shelter tasks include cleaning, laundry, scheduling, preparing and setting up activities, and distributing basic need resources (i.e. hygiene kits, survival supplies, food). Address general questions and concerns from clients, volunteers, and community partners and elevate them to the proper staff if needed. Schedule services for clients accessing shelter services (i.e. laundry support, shower needs, etc.). Deescalate, mediate, and resolve client issues that may arise involving one or more client and/or household. Assist with planning and implementation of age-appropriate programs including recreational activities, skill-building groups, and youth-friendly events. Occasionally support Case Managers' administration of assessments, intakes, referrals and service provision. Support street and school outreach efforts and activities as part of an outreach team. Maintain accurate and timely record keeping (updating daily logs with critical information, administer client surveys, etc.) Maintain the overall health, wellness and safety of youth and shelter facilities. Provide and demonstrate positive role modeling. Drive to and from locations for outreach and transport youth to and from school, appointments or other essential needs. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Some college studies or work experience with vulnerable populations preferred. Self-motivated individual with outgoing personality. An understanding of cross-cultural issues and complex gender issues. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds (including but not limited to, ethnic, religious, physical and mental abilities, etc.). Ability to work effectively in stressful or crisis situations. Recognition of appropriate boundaries and the ability to implement them. Good oral and written communication skills. Experience in using word processing and spreadsheets software. Commitment to work as part of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and organizational information. Ability to professionally communicate with community partners, parents and the public. Ability to meet DMV driver check of insurance, drug/alcohol & criminal background checks including education and employment history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee will be required to sit, stand, kneel, walk or bend for periods of time. May lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Pay:

From $20.67 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
