In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all staff members are expected to conform to the following:

OUR MISSION
Preventing and ending homelessness
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Provide information and referrals to households living in precariously housed situations; when possible, assist such households in locating other affordable housing. Support the Refuge in all aspects of navigating neighbors with accurate resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Engage households living in precariously housed situations who present at the Refuge for assistance.
  • Assess identified households to determine what resources/benefits they are eligible for and assist with application for those benefits as appropriate.
  • Maintain current information on housing opportunities within Knox County including income-based, fair market, and shared housing options.
  • Maintain current information on resources available to those living in poverty.
  • Maintain working relationships with existing agencies whose mission is to serve and empower those living in poverty.
  • Utilize KnoxHMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and Charity Check to record all information relative to assigned cases.
  • Work with the Director of the Refuge and volunteers to meet the informational needs of neighbors, housed and unhoused, seeking resources in the Refuge.
  • Complete Coordinated Entry Assessments and referrals for neighbors experiencing homelessness who are seeking housing assistance.
  • Complete and maintain all records as necessary.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings
  • Complete all other duties as may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities .
WORK ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT USE
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/SENSORY DEMANDS
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00. Presence at VMC events and Board of Director meetings may be required.
WORK RELATED TRAVEL
Travel is not required for this position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • College education and at least one year of experience working with a population experiencing homelessness.
  • Willingness and ability to work within a clinical model and a social work environment.
  • Ability to embrace a Housing First, Harm Reduction clinical model and trauma informed care.
  • Ability to utilize Motivational interviewing to better understand the needs of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to network with other agencies/organizations.
  • Abiding interest in working in an environment of compassion and accountability with individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy workplace environment.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
