ABOUT GUIDING LIGHT HOSPICE
Guiding Light Hospice is a CHAP-accredited, Medicare-certified hospice serving patients and families in San Antonio and the surrounding communities. We are 4-star rated on Hospice Compare, Medicare's national quality rating program. We are intentional about the team we build. Leadership is accessible, expectations are clear, and care is personal. Our staff know their patients by name and their coworkers by more than a title. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Volunteers are the heart of hospice. They sit with patients who would otherwise sit alone. They give a caregiver an hour to breathe. They make the calls, run the errands, and hold the quiet space that clinical care can't always reach. We're looking for a Volunteer Coordinator who can build that program and protect it — someone who recruits well, trains thoroughly, and keeps the documentation airtight. This role is equal parts community-building and stewardship. You'll be the reason a family in their hardest week feels like someone showed up. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Recruit volunteers through churches, universities, civic groups, and community partnerships across our service area Screen, onboard, and train every volunteer — orientation, in-services, and ongoing support Match volunteers thoughtfully to patients and families based on need, personality, and care plan goals Schedule assignments, track hours, and maintain the records that keep us survey-ready Report volunteer hours and ensure we meet the Medicare requirement that volunteers provide at least 5% of total patient care hours Maintain the volunteer program in full compliance with CHAP accreditation standards and Medicare Conditions of Participation Participate in IDG and bring the volunteer perspective into the plan of care Recognize and retain your volunteers — this program lives or dies on how valued people feel ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You're organized enough to run a program and warm enough to build one. You're comfortable speaking in front of a room, following up without being asked, and keeping files that hold up under a survey. You know what accrediting bodies look for and you build your documentation that way from day one — not the week before a site visit.
REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent Strong understanding of CHAP accreditation standards and Medicare hospice regulations Valid Texas driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance Strong organizational and documentation skills Comfort with public speaking and community outreach
PREFERRED
Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field Hospice, home health, or volunteer management experience Prior experience supporting a CHAP survey Bilingual (English/Spanish) ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
BENEFITS
We are proud to offer a competitive and supportive benefits package for our hospice team members, including: Free Company-Paid Medical Insurance Dental and Vision Insurance Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Available with qualified medical plans Company-Paid Life Insurance Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) 8 Paid Holidays Supplemental Insurance Options
  • Including accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity plans Company Car
  • For those that qualify Mileage Reimbursement Self-Care Reimbursement Program
  • Supporting your wellness and balance CHP-SW Certification Reimbursement
  • Encouraging professional growth Supportive Leadership
  • With manageable caseloads to help you provide the best care Mission-Driven Culture
  • Rooted in compassion, teamwork, and purpose ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
