JOB DESCRIPTION
Kurn Hattin Home and School for Children, located in Westminster, VT, is a residential home and school for children ages 5-15. We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and mission-driven individual to serve as a Houseparent in our residential cottages. Houseparents play a crucial role in creating a warm, nurturing, and structured home environment. The primary responsibility is to work collaboratively with families and KH staff to support each child's emotional, social, and academic development, fostering responsibility, respect, and individual growth. Kurn Hattin is a donor-supported organization where good kids from families facing difficult circumstances find a safe, nurturing place to live and learn. Summary:
Houseparents are responsible for supervising all activities within a cottage, fostering a warm and nurturing environment that promotes affection, support, and mutual respect. Their primary goal is to work in partnership with the children's families to support each child's development, encourage individual initiative, and instill a sense of responsibility. Responsibilities and Duties Establish and maintain daily routines, including mealtimes, recreational activities, chores, and quiet time, in accordance with Kurn Hattin policies. Model and teach positive habits related to hygiene, manners, health, appearance, and personal responsibility. Ensure a consistent, warm, and supportive cottage environment that reflects the values of respect, safety, and cooperation. Implement and uphold cottage and campus expectations, rules, and procedures as outlined in the Community Handbook. Assess individual children's needs related to clothing, healthcare, and emotional well-being and share information with appropriate staff. Supervise and support children during off-campus activities, modeling respectful and appropriate behavior at all times. Uphold a high standard of professionalism, understanding the influence of your role on the children's behavior and development. Qualifications Must be twenty-one years of age. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Background and experience in childcare or human-service related field is desired. Ability to foster positive relationships and clear communication with children, families, and colleagues. Must maintain confidentiality and a high level of ethical behavior. How You'll Make an
