Job Description
The River is South Central Wisconsin's busiest food pantry. Our services include free groceries for pick up or delivery, to-go meals, online grocery orders, mobile meals, and after-hours food lockers. We are a passionate, mission-driven team dedicated to addressing food insecurity in our community with respect, compassion, care and generosity. Our team members and volunteers help us serve our community. We are seeking an engaged, organized and relationship-focused Volunteer Coordinator to lead and manage our volunteer program. This position plays a vital role in ensuring volunteers have a meaningful, engaging and rewarding experience while helping The River fulfill its mission. In the full-time, on-site Volunteer Coordinator role, you will contribute through these responsibilities:
- Recruit, screen, onboard, and engage volunteers to ensure successful placement and retention.
- Conduct volunteer orientations.
- Schedule individuals and groups for volunteer opportunities.
- Provide facility tours and introduce volunteers to The River's programs and services.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers before, during, and after their service experience.
- Monitor daily volunteer schedules and adjust as needed.
- Maintain volunteer records, applications, hours logs, and database information.
- Develop and update volunteer position descriptions and volunteer policies in collaboration with staff.
- Ensure volunteers understand workplace expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with conflict resolution involving volunteers and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.
- Promote The River's volunteer program through networking presentations and community engagement.
- Assist in planning and implementing formal and informal volunteer recognition activities.
- Align the volunteer program with the organization's goals, vision, and strategic plan.
- Stay informed about organizational news, programs, and events to effectively share information with volunteers and volunteer organizations.
- As needed, welcome individuals entering the building in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner. Direct them to where they need to go and/or alert staff when someone has arrived to meet with them. To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 3+ years' experience in customer/client services role is required.
- 1+ years' experience in data management including database management is required.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- A valid driver's license and 3+ years of driving experience is required.
- 3+ years' experience in managing volunteers is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time effectively.
- Ability to think quickly and make good decisions when problems arise.
- Ability to build good working relationships and foster feelings of mutual respect with staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Ability to keep self and others organized and on task.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and respectful in stressful, and on occasion volatile, situations.
