Job Description

Substance Abuse Counselor Glendora Recovery Center Glendora, CA Job Details Part-time $21 - $25 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Opportunities for advancement Flexible schedule Qualifications Bilingual Teamwork Group therapy Trauma response Clinical documentation Full Job Description About Glendora Recovery Center Glendora Recovery Center (GRC) is a DHCS-licensed, Joint Commission-accredited outpatient program for substance use and mental health, serving adolescents and adults across the San Gabriel Valley. We were built on a simple idea: healthcare should actually be about health and care. At GRC, we do not just seek to help our clients heal — we seek to help them grow and thrive. Recovery is not the finish line; it is the doorway. Our team is small, clinically serious, and deeply invested in the people who walk through our doors and the counselors who walk alongside them. The Role We are hiring a CADC-certified Substance Use Counselor to join our clinical team. This is a real seat at a real table — not a place to sit and babysit groups while someone else makes the clinical decisions. You will carry a caseload, facilitate groups, help clients build meaningful recovery plans, and grow inside a program that takes both clinical care and professional development seriously. If you are looking for a place where your voice matters, where accountability and compassion coexist, and where you can deepen your skillset alongside experienced clinicians and counselors — keep reading. Growth & Clinical Support Our leadership team is experienced, grounded, and invested in helping counselors grow into strong, ethical clinicians. We believe good supervision should sharpen your thinking — not erase your style. You will receive guidance, support, and accountability while still being trusted to develop your own approach with clients. If you bring lived experience, strong recovery knowledge, cultural perspective, trauma-informed care, or creative approaches to treatment, we want to hear about it. New ideas are welcome here — as long as they are ethical, clinically grounded, and genuinely help the client. What You'll Do Carry a caseload of adolescent and/or adult clients across outpatient levels of care. Facilitate process groups, psychoeducational groups, and recovery-focused programming. Conduct intake interviews, screenings, assessments, and assist in developing individualized treatment plans. Collaborate with therapists, case managers, psychiatry, family systems, and outside providers to coordinate care. Support clients in building relapse prevention skills, recovery support systems, and long-term goals. Document all clinical services in Kipu EMR accurately, thoroughly, and on time. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, case consultations, and ongoing training. Maintain professionalism and ethical boundaries in accordance with DHCS standards, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and agency policy. Help create a treatment environment that is structured, accountable, compassionate, and recovery-oriented. Who You Are Certified or registered CADC counselor in good standing in California. Experience working with substance use and co-occurring mental health populations preferred. Comfortable working with adolescents and/or adults in an outpatient setting. Honest. We mean that literally. Honest with clients, teammates, supervisors, and yourself. A strong communicator with healthy boundaries and emotional maturity. Self-directed and accountable. You manage your caseload, notes, and schedule without needing constant oversight. Strong documentation discipline. Notes completed on time, clinically sound, audit-defensible, and useful to the treatment team. Proficient in Kipu EMR preferred. Open to feedback, continued learning, and professional growth.
Bonus:
bilingual skills, group facilitation experience, trauma-informed training, or lived recovery experience. Why Glendora Recovery Center We are intentional about our culture. We are direct with each other, we own mistakes, and we care deeply about doing good clinical work. We are not a volume mill and we are not interested in burnout culture. We want counselors who care about the work, care about people, and want to become exceptional at what they do. If you are looking for a team that values integrity, growth, accountability, and real recovery work — we should talk. Compensation & Benefits Competitive compensation based on experience Medical, dental, and vision coverage Paid time off and paid holidays Continuing education support and in-house clinical trainings Opportunities for professional development and advancement Exposure to specialized modalities including EMDR, art therapy, yoga, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy Supportive and collaborative team culture How to Apply Send a resume and a short note — not a formal cover letter, just a few honest paragraphs — telling us why this role and why GRC. Tell us about a client interaction, recovery experience, or professional moment that shaped how you think about this work.
