Job Description

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Clinical Director the counselor will provide comprehensive counseling services. The Counselor, through the individualized treatment plan coordinates between clients and outside resources to help ensure that needs of the clients are met. The Counselor will also ensure the provision of substance abuse disorder (SUD) treatment services to persons with a substance abuse history, including HIV/AIDS and mental illness. He/she will also complete all clinical documentation, and work cooperatively with other team members to ameliorate the symptoms of those assigned to his or her caseload. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide outreach, case management, counseling, advocacy, and other needed services to clients in any environment including: the community, shelters, jails, hospitals, apartments, office, etc; Majority of contact with clients is conducted in the field; 2. Document client progress, behavior, incidents and discussions with the Clinical Manager and Case Manager. 3. Provides case management for an assigned group of clients including coordinating and monitoring the activities of the individual treatment team. 4. Assume responsibility for developing, writing, implementing, evaluating and revising overall treatment goals and plans in conjunction with individual treatment plan. 5. Provides individual supportive counseling; assist in symptom management, ensuring immediate changes are made in the treatment plans as client's needs change. 6. Interacts with a diverse group of important external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Handles confidential and non-routine information and explains policies when necessary. 7. Make recommendations related to the care needs regarding the clients' health and safety welfare. 8. Complete 4.5 hours of billable services each work day.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1.
Must be certified/licensed in Washington, DC (CAC I or higher) 2. Must have at least 1 - 3 years of work experience in social services, supported housing, adolescent counseling and DSM-V diagnosis, to include crisis management, intensive case management, individual and/or family therapy, skill training, and other rehabilitation supports preferred for at-risk youth and adults. 3. Associate Degree required. Bachelor Degree preferred. 4. If in recovery from alcohol or drug dependency, counselors must have at least five years of continuous sobriety.
