What they do

A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Co-Occurring Psychosocial Counselor Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselors provide rehabilitation services which includes group therapy, social rehabilitation, basic living skills, individual supportive counseling, substance abuse recovery & maintenance, and therapeutic care services within the role recovery framework. Maintain records in compliance with all required standards. Work as part of a clinical team. Transport people served as necessary and maintain Henderson vehicle/property. Counselors must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related field. One-year experience in mental health setting preferred. Knowledge of treatment of substance abuse disorders, mental health disorders, abuse regulations, patient rights, and crisis intervention.
