A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Earn:
$22
  • 25/hour + $4,500/yearly mileage stipend Position Details Substance Abuse Specialists are an essential part of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team.
The multidisciplinary team provides evidenced based services to members diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders. The SAS provides individual substance abuse therapy and facilitates substance use disorder groups to consumers in service. Create the person-centered treatment plan, review and change the individual crisis plan as required, and complete annual substance use assessment. Ability to meet the client where they are in treatment and utilize motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction techniques when working with members. Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation such as: progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, and interpretative summaries.
