Job Description

Minimum salary: $40,000.00 This range does not include State Supplemental Pay. State Supplemental Pay is not available for this position. Additional pay differentials are available for college education, military service, and prior law enforcement experience. The Sheriff has announced an opening for a Substance Abuse Counselor in the Special Therapies Addiction Treatment (STAT) program of the Programming and Reentry Section at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex (LPCC). This program utilizes traditional substance abuse treatment modalities augmented with special expressive arts therapies with inmates of the facility.
Applicants must have:
a minimum of a bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field with at least four years supervised work under a licensed mental health professional; Current board certification or licensing for substance abuse counseling in the state of Louisiana (preferred); Possess mental health clinical experience working with individuals with addictive disorders; Knowledge of 12 Step Programs, medically assisted treatment (MAT), and/or other Addictive Disorder treatment modalities; Experience in group and individual counseling. The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Conduct substance abuse screenings, assessments and evaluations for the STAT program including MAT services; Conduct group and individual counseling sessions with clients for the STAT program including MAT services; Teach clients coping mechanisms and best ways to prevent relapse through psychoeducational training programs; Motivate individuals to desist from an addictive behavior and accept treatment; Help clients setup a support network or sober living required in overcoming an addiction; Prepare individualized treatment plans and continuing care/case management plans; Track clients' recovery process to identify the need for treatment plan adjustment; Conduct or supervise urine drug screens as needed; Maintain contact with family members and provide and/or refer for services as needed; Document, review, and maintain detailed case records on all clients; Review and/or prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports as required; Participate in all staff conferences regarding the evaluation of client's progress and future treatment goals; Work with Clinical Staff, Program Staff and Correctional Administrators regarding client and program progress; Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of LPCC, agency programs, DOC and Louisiana State Licensing Guidelines; Establish and maintain liaison with various social services agencies that may be of assistance in alleviating client's problems, refers clients to appropriate medical, legal, or social service personnel to accommodate their clients; Participate in educational workshops to identify new techniques of resolving substance abuse; Maintain updated Certifications and Licensure requirements. Beginning annual salary will be at least, $40,000. This position is not eligible to receive State Supplemental Pay or a take home unit.
