Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties Conduct thorough client assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and co-occurring disorders using DSM-5 criteria and clinical documentation standards. Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral management strategies. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health stabilization, and relapse prevention. Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage acute situations effectively while ensuring client safety and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Engage in case management activities including intake procedures, patient care planning, progress documentation in Electronic Health Records (EHR), and coordination with community resources. Provide family and child counseling when appropriate to support holistic recovery efforts within clients' support systems. Maintain accurate medical documentation, adhere to clinical documentation standards, and utilize ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for diagnostic evaluation and billing purposes. Experience Proven experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in diverse settings such as hospitals, community clinics, or home care environments. Demonstrated expertise in psychotherapy modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and crisis management techniques. Strong background in client assessment in therapy, diagnosis using DSM-5 criteria, and evidence-based addiction counseling practices. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and working within HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient confidentiality. Experience utilizing EMR/EHR systems for clinical documentation, data collection, and medical records management. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while maintaining cultural sensitivity during intake assessments and treatment planning. Knowledge of CPT coding for billing purposes and ICD coding for diagnostic classification enhances accurate recordkeeping.
