A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides individualized assessment, treatment planning, counseling, education, relapse prevention, and recovery support to TBI Waiver participants. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, the counselor develops person-centered strategies that address the unique cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and environmental challenges experienced following a traumatic brain injury. Will be working as part of the Waiver/Community Services team, as well as supervising staff members and quality assurance tasks.Education & Experience:
Candidate must possess Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in good standing AND- Bachelor's degree in psychology
- Bachelor's degree in social work
- Special Education Degree or Rehabilitation Counseling AND Two years of experience working with individuals who have traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, neurological disorders, or cognitive impairments; or providing services to individuals with a history of substance abuse.
