Flexible Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to provide support and treatment services to individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. The counselor will work closely with clients to assess needs, develop treatment plans, facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, and collaborate with medical and social service providers to support recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations of clients' substance use history, mental health status, and support systems. Develop individualized treatment plans and regularly review and adjust them based on client progress. Provide one-on-one counseling sessions using evidence-based practices. Educate clients and their families about addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and coping mechanisms. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with confidentiality laws and organizational standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, physicians, and case managers. Monitor clients' progress and modify treatment plan on a monthly basis. Facilitate referrals to outside agencies for additional services as needed (e.g., housing, employment assistance, medical care). Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development. Uphold ethical standards and support a safe and supportive environment for clients.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field (Master's preferred). Licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LCPC or equivalent depending on state requirements). Minimum 1-2 years of experience in substance abuse counseling or behavioral health. Knowledge of addiction treatment modalities, including CBT, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage crises and maintain composure under pressure. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation practices.
