Claims, Operations Full-Time, Springfield, MA The Opportunity As a Disability Vocational Consultant, you will be responsible for file review and occupational analysis to determine specific occupational requirements to aid in the assessment of whether an insured meets the definition of disability. In this role, you will apply sound judgment, critical thinking, and focused decision-making. The Team We're a team that works together to make sure every claim is handled with care and attention. Our team includes people with a wide range of skills—claim examiners, medical and financial experts. This enables us to help our clients in the best way possible. The Impact In this role as a Disability Vocational Consultant, you will collaborate closely with Disability Claim Examiners and Consultants as well as subject matter experts across medical, vocational, and financial disciplines. You will assist the claim examining staff in evaluating vocational information to determine eligibility for benefits under our policies. This position requires an understanding of functional capabilities as they apply to disabled employees' ability to work.
Key Reponsibilities Include:
File review and occupational analysis to determine specific occupational requirements to aid in the determination of whether an insured meets the definition of disability Conduct procedure code reviews to determine activities pre and post onset of disability for medical and dental providers Coordinate functional capacity evaluations and reviews Conduct transferable skills analysis, assessment of work capacity, and labor market research to help assess existence of reasonable occupations in a specific geographical area Collaborate with internal and external resources to identify tools and resources for claimants and employers that can be used to expedite return to work (RTW) efforts Conduct ongoing research of various occupations, labor market trends, and state laws pertaining to vocational rehabilitation Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or currently pursuing with an anticipated graduation of 2026 or 2027 Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation or must obtain within 6 months of hire Ideal Qualifications Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation 1+ years of vocational rehabilitation experience preferred, ideally in disability management Excellent communication, both verbal and written, counseling, and interpersonal skills Familiarity with labor market analysis tools and vocational assessment methodologies Strong understanding of RTW best practices and related human resources topics What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team Regular meetings with the
