SALARY $16.91 - $21.14 JOB
SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY
To mentor youth with the aim of providing support, guidance, positive interaction, exposure to positive activities, opportunities to learn life skills and positive problem-solving skills through a strength-based trauma informed approach.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide weekly mentoring sessions implementing social emotional learning, life skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring. Work as a team to help establish a trusting and dependable relationship that can place the youth on a positive path to success. Assist youth to further developing life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, academic excellence, and moral values. Enable and encourage positive decision-making and helping youth learn to take responsibility for actions, to see their victims as people, and to see the value in themselves Demonstrate good character, emotional stability, and a responsible adult lifestyle
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Connect youth and families with needed and available community resources Follow-up with youth, parents, and agencies as appropriate to regarding referrals Maintain case note documentation, data collection Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include youth follow-up, outcome evaluation, and youth contact sheets Maintain a heavy caseload Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and the professional code of ethics Other duties as assigned by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Ability to work with at risk youth Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open personal qualities, clear sense of boundaries. A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both youth and fellow employees. Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation. Valid drivers license.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
High school diploma with a minimum of two years experience in a similar position working with at-risk youth. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C. Pre-placement screening includes Criminal history check Drug, and alcohol testing Motor vehicle review (MVR) City of Arlington is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
