A Youth Counselor or Worker works with young people, primarily ages 13-18, to provide mentoring and support for dealing with problems. Works in a school or community-based program; may assist with referrals from parole or probation offices. Collaborates with teachers, family members, social workers and health care professionals to help young people facing challenges or crises.

Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The School Age Child Care Counselor (SACC) - Before and After Care School Program supports the mission of the West Morris Area YMCA by fostering a passion for the joy of learning and adventure in children.
Hours:
7-9am and/or 2:30-6pm
Qualifications:
  • CPR/First aid certification.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.
  • Experience working with children in a learning or camp environment.
  • Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of people from all socio-economic backgrounds and communities.
  • Bilingual a plus.
