Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
The GO Club Counselor provides direct supervision and engagement for children in grades K-6 in a safe, structured, and positive afterschool environment. This role supports social, emotional, and academic development through planned activities and meaningful relationships. Counselors represent the YMCA's mission and values while working collaboratively with staff, schools, families, and community partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(not a complete list): Provide consistent supervision and ensure the daily safety and well-being of all participantsMaintain reliable attendance and punctuality for all scheduled shifts and communicate absences promptlyImplement curriculum and planned activities according to program schedulesFoster positive relationships with children through engagement, guidance, and mentorshipCommunicate effectively with families, school staff, and YMCA leadership regarding participant experiencesCollaborate with team members, volunteers, and school personnel to create a positive program environmentModel inclusive practices that ensure all participants feel safe, respected, and welcomeDemonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and positive behavior at all timesMaintain current knowledge of YMCA policies, procedures, and youth development standardsAdhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.

Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.

Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.

Abide by the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility.
