Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Director to lead and inspire our youth programs on a part-time basis. This role is vital in fostering a nurturing environment where young people can grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally. The Youth Director will develop engaging activities, provide mentorship, and support the overall well-being of children and teenagers within our church. If you are energetic, compassionate, and committed to making a positive impact on youth lives, this opportunity is perfect for you! This position is part-time (estimated 7 - 10 hours per week, days of the week, as required). Duties Lead the youth programs on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings. Plan, organize, and conduct activities and programs. These include, but are not limited to: spiritual growth opportunities, Bible study, youth-led worship services, retreats and lock-ins, conference activities, camps, trips and mission activities, fund raisers, and other youth programs/or designated events. Place strong emphasis on the youth attending church camps and, if possible, serve as a counselor for at least one camp. Meet quarterly with the Education Committee to review programming, activities, budget, and expenditures. Maintain regular contact with youth, their parents, and any prospective youth. Prepare a calendar of upcoming events for youth and parents. Calendar will be published in the church newsletter. Arrange for adequate and safe transportation in advance for all off-site activities. Inform congregation of youth activities through pictures and articles in the newsletter. Meet, as needed, with the Pastor. Other duties, as assigned, by the Pastor and youth advisory council. Attend staff meetings, as scheduled by the Pastor. Must be able to pass a background check and immediately after hire, get certified to work with children and youth through the UMC Safe Sanctuary training program (will be provided by the church). Skills and Experience Must be a committed Christian who is deepening his/her own personal relationship with Jesus Christ and who is able to model this to others. Strong leadership abilities with experience in mentoring or teaching youth. Excellent communication skills to connect effectively with children, teenagers, parents, and team members. Event planning skills to organize engaging activities and community events for youth groups. Proven ability to motivate others, foster teamwork, and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. Maintain roll and attendance of youth. Must become a member/associate member of the St. James congregation unless enrolled in seminary.

$6,000.00 per year
