Solid Waste Truck Driver

General Statement of Duties:

Performs a variety of duties related to the collection and transport of solid waste. Operates sanitation trucks and related equipment to support municipal services on a part-time, as-needed, basis.

Supervision Received:

Works under the direction of the Public Works Crew Supervisor.

Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

o Operates garbage trucks safely and efficiently. o Safely operate packing, loading, and dumping mechanisms. o Complete assigned residential and/or commercial collection routes o Transport refuse to designated landfill or disposal locations o Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete daily equipment/route logs o Ensure vehicles are properly fueled, lubricated, and equipped for operation o Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles o Maintain safe and efficient operation of all equipment and vehicles o Report mechanical issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs immediately o Keep work areas and vehicles in an orderly condition o Follow all applicable traffic laws, safety regulations, and Town policies. o Provide courteous and professional interaction with the public and fellow employees. o Assist with other Public Works duties as assigned o May participate in cross-training opportunities within the department

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Wyoming CDL (Class B required)
• Air brake endorsement
• Acceptable driving record
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment

Preferred Qualifications :

• Prior sanitation or heavy equipment experience
• Knowledge of landfill or transfer station procedures
• Familiarity with local streets and service routes

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

• Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, standing.
• Exposure to dust, odors, and noise.

Schedule:

This is a part-time, as-needed position. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on operational needs, including employee absences, seasonal workload, and emergencies. Work hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on operational needs. This position is limited to a maximum of 24 hours per week, unless otherwise approved in advanced by the Public Works Foreman or Town Administrator.

Additional Conditions:

• This position is not eligible for benefits.
• Must maintain a valid CDL at all times.
• May be required to complete routes independently.

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
