Job Description
Overview This position could be Seasonal or Year around! Private housing is included...live in your own one bedroom/1 bath furnished apartment with laundry! The apartment is a short 5 minute walk from the hotel, and located just a block from the Missouri River. Come be part of the BOH team in a hard-working but fun, positive, team-focused work environment! Apply with the Union Grille, located in the Historic Grand Union Hotel in Fort Benton, Montana! (Read more about this incredible spot at the end of this post!) We run dinner service 7 nights a week, June 1-September 30. You'll be responsible for running the kitchen for 2 of those nights. For over 25 years, we have offered a top-notch, fine dining experience featuring locally sourced ingredients and elevated dishes, gaining a reputation for consistently fine fare. Join our dynamic culinary team as a Sous Chef, where your passion for food and leadership will elevate our dining experience to new heights! In this vital role, you will support the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality, and maintaining a vibrant, efficient work environment. Your expertise in fine dining, food production, and team supervision will be instrumental in delivering memorable guest experiences. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary talents while fostering a collaborative and energetic kitchen atmosphere. Duties Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth shift management and high standards of food service. Lead food preparation and cooking activities, maintaining consistency and quality across all menu items. Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and support to foster a motivated team environment. Manage inventory control and food handling procedures to minimize waste and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Coordinate catering and banquet services, ensuring timely delivery and presentation of all events. Support menu planning efforts by contributing creative ideas aligned with culinary trends and guest preferences. Uphold strict standards for dietary accommodations, allergy awareness, and sanitation practices throughout the kitchen. Experience Proven supervisory experience in a fast-paced restaurant or hospitality setting, preferably within fine dining environments. Extensive culinary experience with strong skills in food production, cooking techniques, and kitchen management. Familiarity with inventory management systems, food safety protocols, and dietary department procedures. Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on team management, shift coordination, and staff development. Experience working with banquet services, event catering, and large-scale food service operations is highly desirable. Knowledge of the food industry standards for hygiene, safety, and quality assurance. Prior restaurant experience emphasizing menu planning, food handling, and hospitality service excellence. The Grand Union Hotel sits on the banks of the Missouri and is the oldest operating Hotel in Montana, at 142 years old! It underwent a major renovation throughout in the late 90's, and now has 26 beautifully appointed guest rooms. The Historic dining room has a seasonal patio for dining al fresco, and is a classically designed treasure to work in. We are known for our fine dining cuisine and beautiful space, and in the Summer we host guests from all over the World! Fort Benton is a sleepy, small Montana town/tourist destination, on the banks of the Missouri River. Lewis and Clark came through here, and the town is known as "The Birthplace of the West." Three outfitters work out of Fort Benton, taking guests on multi-day river trips. Time slows down here...people are relaxed and on trips of a lifetime! Come be part of the history at the Grand Union!
