Aug 19, 2026 Job Description Sparta High School is seeking a collaborative, student-focused High School Guidance Counselor who is committed to supporting the academic, social-emotional, college, and career readiness of all students. The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to ensure students are prepared for success beyond high school. This position plays a vital role in advancing the school's mission of college and career readiness through intentional academic planning, individualized student support, and collaborative intervention strategies. The counselor will also support the development and monitoring of 504 plans and contribute to a school culture centered on student achievement, belonging, and future planning. Essential Responsibilities Student Support & Counseling Provide individual and group instruction focused on academic achievement, social-emotional wellness, goal setting, and post-secondary planning Build strong relationships with students and families to support student growth and engagement Support students through academic, behavioral, and personal challenges using a collaborative, solution-oriented approach Assist with crisis response and connect students and families with school and community resources when needed Collaboration & Student Success Collaborate regularly with teachers, administrators, intervention teams, and support staff to identify and address student needs Participate actively in MTSS, PBIS, and Child Study meetings Work closely with staff and administrators to support the creation, implementation and monitoring of 504 accommodations and plans Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress, concerns, and supports College & Career Readiness Lead and support initiatives aligned with the schoolwide goal of college and career readiness Assist students in developing individualized academic and post-secondary plans aligned with career interests and graduation goals Guide students and families through college applications, scholarships, financial aid, dual enrollment, skilled trades, military pathways, and career exploration opportunities Coordinate career readiness activities such as college visits, career fairs, job shadowing, and workforce partnerships Support students in understanding graduation requirements and selecting coursework that aligns with future goals School Community & Professional Responsibilities Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture Participate in professional learning and continuous school improvement efforts Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with school, district, and state requirements Stay informed on best practices related to counseling, college and career readiness, student mental health, and 504 compliance Qualifications Master's degree in School Counseling or related field Valid state certification/licensure as a School Counselor Knowledge of 504 processes, accommodations, and compliance requirements Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and relationship-building Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Experience supporting college and career readiness initiatives preferred Experience working with high school students preferred Preferred Characteristics The ideal candidate is: Collaborative and team-oriented Student-centered and relationship-driven Organized and proactive Passionate about helping students identify and pursue post-secondary opportunities Committed to equity, inclusion, and whole-child supportPosition Type:
