Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding role supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher for elementary students (K-2). This contract position focuses on working with a class of approximately 20 students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). Your expertise and dedication will help each child reach critical developmental milestones within an engaging, supportive in-person classroom environment. As an essential member of the educational team, you'll create and implement individualized lesson plans, collaborate with colleagues, and provide hands-on support tailored to each child's needs. Start as soon as possible and remain part of this dynamic, caring school community through June 13th, 2026.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid Maine teaching license for elementary-age students Background in special education, with experience or training working with K-2 populations Strong understanding of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and relevant instructional strategies Exceptional organizational and communication skills Collaborative mindset for working with teachers, support staff, and families
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons in-person for K-2 students with SLD Assess and monitor student learning; adapt and modify lessons as needed Develop and maintain IEPs and other necessary documentation Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom climate Consult and coordinate with classroom teachers, aides, and other specialists Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress Imagine making a meaningful difference in the daily lives of young learners, helping each child embrace their strengths and overcome challenges.
