Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher in an elementary setting working in-person with students in grades K-2. You'll provide direct instruction and build meaningful relationships with approximately 20 students, all identified with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). Your guidance will be essential in creating a nurturing classroom environment and driving positive educational outcomes. This position begins as soon as possible and extends through June 13th, 2026, offering you the chance to make a sustained, lasting impact during a pivotal time in your students' learning journeys.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Valid Maine teaching license for elementary age groups Certification or strong experience as a Special Education Teacher, especially in early elementary classrooms (grades K-2) Familiarity with SLD strategies, IEP implementation, and differentiated instruction Demonstrated ability to work in-person and engage with young children in educational activities Excellent communication and classroom management skills
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide daily in-person instruction to a classroom of approximately 20 K-2 students Develop and adapt IEPs to accommodate specific learning needs Utilize evidence-based strategies for students with Specific Learning Disabilities Collaborate with general education staff, instructional aides, and school support teams Monitor and report student progress, adjusting teaching approaches as needed Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere If you're passionate about supporting students with diverse needs and hold the necessary licensure, this is your chance to make a real difference.
