The OASES Monitoring Liaison is responsible for assisting in the implementation of special education and civil rights compliance and oversight for approved special education schools, and possibly collaboratives in the Office of Approved Special Education Schools (OASES).
Key Responsibilities:
Program Review Activities:
Implement focused monitoring through the Web-based Monitoring System (CHAMP); provide technical assistance and approval systems in order to ensure the proper implementation of state and federal education laws; implement monitoring activities in a manner prescribed by the Department; write and prepare program and mid-cycle review reports and proof prior to giving to supervisor for approval; provide support and guidance to staff in approved special education schools as they secure, review and approve any required corrective action plans and progress reports requested as a result of program or mid-cycle review visits; ensure appropriate interpretation and implementation of all education related statues, regulations and Department policies; provide technical assistance and support to consumers regarding requirements and corrective action plans and activities; utilize the Web-based Monitoring System (CHAMP) following the template for thoroughness; offer feedback and suggestions for program, mid-cycle, initial and reconstruction instruments; complete initial approvals, extraordinary relief requests, program reconstructions and special circumstance requests; review and follow up on Serious Incident Reports and Prior Notifications/Approvals through CHAMP; complete the Individual Student Pricing applications and, review and when appropriate, request additional documentation from school staff to complete the immediate notification/prior approval process. Implementation of Coordination of Service Team model: Work collaboratively with the other staff in OASES to maximize staff effectiveness and efficiency in implementing major responsibilities of OASES. Participate in regular staff meetings, support the success of the team through participation in training activities and conduct your work to reflect the high quality and effective work within the group. Exercise and supervise the practice of effective time management to ensure adherence to established timelines.
Program Approval and Reconstruction Procedures:
Work collaboratively with other OASES staff to ensure a complete review of a new application for program approval or reconstruction as well as be aware of approved staffing plans for all approved special education schools based on most recently approved staffing plan (through Extraordinary Relief, Special Circumstances, Program Reconstruction or Initial Application). Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional preparation and teaching and/or administrative experience in approved special education schools or collaboratives with students with disabilities.
