Purpose Statement The job of Special Education Specialist (JC554) is done for the purpose/s of providing a wide variety of administrative and educational support to assigned administrator and department; establishing and ensuring compliance of district, state, and federal guidelines and maintaining special education records; coordinating special education meetings; reviewing IEP paperwork, observing special education students; substituting in classrooms; creating, compiling and distributing a wide variety of materials and reports. This job reports to School Psychologist, SPED Director
ESSENTIAL
Functions Assists in coordination of a variety of programs and/or activities (e.g. meetings with parents, transfers of incoming students' special education documents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established guidelines. Communicates with a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. district staff, other schools, state and federal agencies, general public, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and providing direction. Compiles data from a variety of sources utilizing multiple software programs (e.g. scanning and uploading of signature forms, confidential reports, records from other schools, outside agency letters, reports and evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of determining accuracy and completeness of all special education processes, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, district regulations. Coordinates , schedules, and collaborates special education meetings (e.g. Annual IEP meetings, eligibility/re-evaluation meetings, manifestation determination meetings, and other meetings as directed by school psychologists and/or school administration, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district timelines and procedures. Implements educational support in the classroom (e.g. substituting for certificated staff released to attend IEP/MDA meetings or special education meetings with students, parents, staff, etc.) for the purpose of supporting student learning. Maintains database files, confidential and non-confidential records; compiling pertinent information in assigned area (e.g. inputting information into system, Special Education records, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of documents in compliance with all federal/state/district regulations. Prepares special education data reports for the purpose of ensuring all district, state and federal regulations and requirements are being met. Provides review, analysis and feedback (e.g. complex variety of special education procedures and processes, etc.) for the purpose of providing historical documentation, and ensuring necessary compliance. Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. district staff, other schools, state and federal agencies, general public, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction. Reviews MDA/IEP paperwork for the purpose of determining if all forms are accurate and complete meeting compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. Serves as a Classroom Substitute (e.g. certificated staff release to attend IEP/MDA meetings/parent conferences, etc.) for the purpose of supporting student learning. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Education:
Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job-related area
Certificates & Licenses:
Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability Substitute teacher permit through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board
