Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Special Education Teacher to join our elementary team for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This position focuses on supporting a caseload of approximately 20 students in the K-2 grade span who have been identified with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) . Because of the foundational age group and the nature of the instructional needs, this is a 100% in-person role . We are looking for a professional who can jump in immediately to provide consistent, high-quality support through the end of the academic year.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Delivery:
Design and implement specially designed instruction (SDI) tailored to students with SLD in reading, writing, and mathematics.
IEP Management:
Maintain and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring all goals and accommodations are met.
Progress Monitoring:
Collect data and track student progress toward IEP goals, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
Collaboration:
Work closely with general education teachers, educational technicians, and parents to ensure a cohesive learning environment for students.
Compliance:
Ensure all documentation and service delivery align with Maine Unified Special Education Regulations (MUSER).
Qualifications & Requirements Maine State Certification:
Must hold (or be eligible for) Maine Department of Education Endorsement 282 (Teacher of Children with Disabilities, K-8).
Grade Level Expertise:
Proven experience or strong desire to work with Early Elementary (K-2) populations.
SLD Proficiency:
Familiarity with evidence-based interventions for Specific Learning Disabilities.
Clearances:
Current Maine CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) fingerprinting approval.
