GreenWood is the first school in Utah to focus on holistic education. GreenWood is a free public charter school serving grades K-8. GreenWood was chartered to educate students, engage parents and connect with our community to support a culture of healthy habits for our students to grow academically. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. Everything that we do at GreenWood Charter School is intended to meet the needs of students. You must have the ability to develop meaningful connections with students, have strong classroom management skills, and have the skills to create classroom culture in which individuals are valued for what they bring to the group. As a special education teacher, we hope that you feel excited about engaging students in learning. You will collaborate with other teachers to support students. We hope that you'll bring your own knowledge and interests to engage in this ongoing curriculum development. You will be expected to plan and deliver instruction aligned with the Utah Common Core standards for these your students, and assess students' mastery of the standards outlined. RESPONSIBILITIES
Confer with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, or administrators to resolve students' behavioral or academic challenges. Develop individual educational plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, or social development. Develop or implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities. Employ special educational strategies or techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, or memory. Encourage students to explore learning opportunities or persevere with challenging tasks to prepare them for later grades. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to students, parents, or guardians. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students. Modify the general curriculum for special-needs students. Monitor teachers or teacher assistants to ensure adherence to special education program requirements. Observe and evaluate students' performance and behavior. Plan and supervise experiential learning activities, such as class projects, field trips, or demonstrations. Prepare objectives, outlines, or other materials for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements. Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification or positive reinforcement. Teach students personal development skills, such as goal setting, independence, or self-advocacy. Administer tests to help determine children's developmental levels, needs, or potential. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, or teacher training workshops to maintain or improve professional competence. Collaborate with other teachers or administrators to develop, evaluate, or revise school programs. Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, or other professionals to develop individual education plans (IEPs). Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, or administrative regulations. Meet with parents or guardians to discuss their children's progress, advise them on using community resources, or teach skills for dealing with students' impairments. Organize and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their perceptual skills. Prepare assignments for teacher assistants or volunteers. Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.QUALIFICATIONS
- Appreciation for the EL Education design model -- commitment to develop curriculum and implement EL core practices, including in-depth learning expeditions
- Appreciation for the life and mind of the adolescent scholar
- Personal qualities that exemplify the school's emphasis on character development and community
- Special Education Teaching experience, and philosophies consistent with GreenWood's progressive, constructivist, exploratory and project-based educational philosophy
- Strong subject area background; highly qualified or ready to get qualified; licensed in Utah with relevant content area expertise
- Skillful at using a variety of assessment methods and data to pinpoint students' strengths and weaknesses and skillful at applying instructional practices to address diverse learning needs
- Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and readiness to reflect and grow
- Values a collaborative approach to working with a diverse population of children and adults
- Sense of humor and a high level of energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, and spontaneity
- Exemplary organizational skills including ability to prioritize, complete tasks (such as grading) efficiently, keep grade-book up to date, and document lessons, materials, and assessment
