Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring their access to a high-quality education in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth, independence, and success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery:
Develop and implement IEPs that address the unique needs of each student, in collaboration with parents, administrators, and related service providers. Provide individualized and small-group instruction in accordance with IEP goals and objectives. Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology to enhance student learning. Monitor student progress and collect data to inform instructional decisions.
IEP Development and Implementation:
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of comprehensive and measurable IEP goals. Maintain accurate and up-to-date IEP documentation. Communicate regularly with parents and related service providers regarding student progress and IEP implementation.
Classroom Management and Behavior Support:
Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and participation. Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address student behavior concerns. Collaborate with school counselors and behavior specialists to develop and implement behavior support plans.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Administer and interpret a variety of assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas of need. Use assessment data to inform instructional planning and IEP development. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate student eligibility for special education services.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and parents to ensure seamless integration and support for students with disabilities. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding student progress, IEP implementation, and classroom activities. Attend and participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
Compliance and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and confidential student records. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations. Adhere to district policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field. Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certification. Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Experience developing and implementing IEPs. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues. Commitment to the success of all students with disabilities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform duties in a classroom setting. Ability to lift and carry materials as needed. Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel. Ability to use technology effectively.
