Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into an impactful educational setting as a dedicated Special Education Teacher with a focus on early learning! This contract opportunity, beginning in August, is purposefully designed for professionals passionate about supporting K-2 students within a self-contained, cross-categorical classroom. You'll work on-site, guiding young learners and empowering them to achieve their full potential throughout the school year.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Valid LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) certification is required. Active Illinois Educator Identification Number (IEIN) must be provided upon application. Prior experience working as a Special Education Teacher, particularly in self-contained and cross-categorical settings, is highly desirable. Solid understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs), implementation strategies, and behavior management techniques. Excellent communication, flexibility, and collaboration skills for working closely with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide tailored instruction and academic support to K-2 students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom setting. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and ensure meaningful inclusion opportunities. Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, maintaining accurate documentation and open communication with parents and stakeholders. Foster a safe, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior, social-emotional growth, and active engagement. Participate in school-based meetings and ongoing professional development.
