Special Education Teacher Surad Academy 128 8th Avenue NW, Faribault, MN 55021 From $47,000 a year - Full-time From $47,000 a year - Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to inspire and support students with diverse learning needs. In this vital role, you will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), adapt curricula, and employ innovative teaching strategies to foster academic growth, social-emotional development, and independence. Responsibilities Design and deliver tailored lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating specialized techniques such as speech therapy, behavioral management, and literacy education. Develop, monitor, and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and educational best practices. Employ classroom management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment that encourages participation, respect, and collaboration among students. Use evidence-based behavioral therapy techniques to support students with autism, behavioral health needs, or other developmental disabilities. Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, and other specialists to coordinate interventions like deaf education or early intervention programs. Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to evaluate student progress and inform instructional adjustments. Engage in ongoing professional development related to childhood development, Montessori methods, preschool experience, or other specialized educational approaches. Mentor and tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce literacy skills, math concepts, or social skills through engaging activities. Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, behavior management plans, and communication with parents or guardians regarding IEP goals and achievements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; advanced certifications in special education are preferred. Proven classroom experience working with children with disabilities or developmental delays across early childhood education settings. Strong knowledge of curriculum development tailored for diverse learners including those with autism or other developmental disabilities. Familiarity with behavioral health strategies, behavioral therapy techniques, and behavior management plans. Experience working with individuals requiring speech therapy or literacy education interventions is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, mentoring students, and engaging families effectively. Ability to adapt lessons for preschool or early childhood settings using Montessori methods or library services when applicable.
