Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful teaching opportunity supporting students as a Special Education professional in a vibrant educational environment. This contract position spans the 2026-2027 school year, from August through May, and is located near Freeman, SD. You'll work at one school, maintaining consistent relationships and a stable schedule. This rewarding role focuses on serving a diverse K-12 caseload, including 11 elementary students, 4 middle schoolers, and potentially a few high school students. You'll collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure inclusive, individualized support for your students.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Valid Special Education K-12 teaching certification in South Dakota (required) Previous experience or a passion for working with a variety of age groups and disabilities Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Ability to foster a positive, inclusive learning environment Adaptability and a commitment to individualized instruction Experience developing and implementing
IEPs Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education programs for students on your caseload Offer direct instructional support to students in resource, classroom, or one-on-one settings Monitor and document student progress, updating IEPs as required Partner with general educators, families, and related service staff to promote student growth and success Advocate for student needs and provide guidance on accommodations and modifications Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality at all times This role offers a dedicated schedule of approximately 35 hours per week—ideal for professionals seeking stability and the chance to build meaningful connections with students across multiple grade levels.
